Domain name registrations grew by approximately 1.3 million or 0.4 percent sequentially in Q1 to approximately 330.6 million across all top-level domains (TLDs) as of 31 March, according to data from Verisign.
The increase of approximately 1.3 million domain name registrations globally equates to a growth rate of 0.4 percent over the fourth quarter of 2016. On a year-on-year basis, domain name registrations grew 3.7 percent to 11.8 million.
The .com and .net TLDs had a combined total of approximately 143.6 million domain name registrations in the domain name base in the first quarter. This represents a 0.8 percent increase year over year. As of 31 March, the .com domain name base totaled 128.4 million domain name registrations, while the .net domain name base totaled 15.2 million domain name registrations.
New .com and .net domain name registrations totaled 9.5 million during Q1. In the first quarter of 2016, new .com and .net domain name registrations totaled 10 million.
