The Swedish Internet Foundation said the .se top level country domain name for Sweden has raised its market share by 2.6 percent since the end of 2016 and accounts for all the growth in the market in 2017. Meanwhile, the .com domain has suffered a 1.4 percent decline in its Swedish market share to 20 percent over the same period.
The Swedish share held by the .nu domain name for the Pacific Ocean island state of Niue has shrunk to 6.5 percent from 7.0 percent. The .nu name gained 22,000 domains but all of this growth occurred outside Sweden. ’Nu’ means ’now’ in Swedish, Danish and Dutch, hence its popularity in the relevant countries.
IIS said that at the end of the first half, there were approximately 31,000 domains registered for the 425 top domains that are active in Sweden. The most popular new ones were .top, which had 5,125 on 03 July, with .xyz have 3,702 and .bid having 2,414.
